I am absolutely delighted to share that our Fostering Ambassador, Paul Jacobs GM, is using his incredible experiences and skills to coach boxing for young cadets in Thanet.
We asked Paul to become an Ambassador for us, as his journey is truly inspiring, and his commitment to giving back to the community, especially to young people who have experienced foster care, is nothing short of remarkable.
Paul, a blind veteran who lost his sight while serving with the 2nd Battalion The Rifles in Afghanistan in 2009, is dedicating his time, not only to encourage people to consider becoming foster carers but has now decided to become a boxing coach for young cadets in Thanet and the impact he is set to make is extraordinary.
What makes this even more special is that 60% of the cadets he will be working with are from foster homes. Paul understands firsthand the transformative power of fostering and he often speaks about his own foster carer, Marion, who provided him with the first real sense of family and belonging.
Paul’s new role as a boxing coach is about so much more than teaching technical skills—it’s about mentorship, empowerment, and helping young people make positive choices.
Paul is currently working towards his boxing coaching certification and is spending three days a week training with the cadets. Seeing his dedication, resilience, and passion is a reminder of the vital role that support and encouragement play in shaping young lives. Having positive role models is key and foster carers really do change lives.
