As we start the new year facing the challenges of snow, torrential rain and storms across the UK, I find myself reflecting on the challenges we face in fostering.
Across the country, hundreds of children remain in care, each one with their own story, their own experiences, and their own need for safety, stability and love. My greatest hope for 2026 is simple, yet profound: that every one of those children is given the chance to grow up in a loving, nurturing home where they feel valued, understood and supported.
Fostering changes lives, not only for children, but for foster carers too. Time and again, we see how a stable, caring home can help a child rebuild trust, grow in confidence and begin to look to the future with hope. Yet we also know that there is a critical shortage of foster carers, and this remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the care system today.
Foster carers come from all walks of life, and there is no single “type” of person who can make a difference. What matters is compassion, patience, and a willingness to open your heart and home to a child who needs it. If more people were able to see the real impact they could have, I truly believe many more would take that first step.
At Diagrama Fostering, we are committed to supporting foster carers every step of the way, through training, guidance, and a strong community that understands both the rewards and the realities of fostering.
Finally, I do hope that the Government keeps its promise to help rectify the lack of carers. Meaningful, sustained support is essential, not only in words, but through practical action, investment and policy that recognises the vital role foster carers play in our society. Children in care deserve nothing less.
2026 offers us an opportunity: to work together, to raise awareness, and to ensure that no child is left without the care and stability they deserve. My hope is that, through collective effort, compassion and commitment, we can make that vision a reality.
Every child deserves a loving home and together, we can help make that happen.
